Sounds to me that the power to the starter solenoid is not shutting off when the ignition key is released, thus the new key switch could be bad. The lead wire from that point on the rear of the switch (to the solenoid) can easily be checked with a meter to determine if it's shutting off the power when the key is released. Of course, the solenoid, even if new, could also be bad, but regardless, the problem you're describing almost has to be in that starting circuit and not elsewhere.
