My mom took us wee boys to get our school cloths at the start of each school year at the local Belk's Clothing Store. We were given one pair of dungarees, one shirt,a pair of socks and a pair of ugly shoe's.After school all of this came off till the next day and then back on again. These had to last all year.Dad died in 43 and left Mom with three wee boys and a button. No welfare in those days,,,just work if you could. The War years were tough on "poor" families.Had to have "stamps" for most important items.Tires, fuel, sugar, appliances, and no such thing as a lady getting nylon hose.During those War years my dad rode his bycicle (when he was alive) to work.Mom made "drawers" from feed and flour sacks. The "GOOD OLE DAYS" what Mom called them.As I recall a dentist didn't fill teeth back then,,,,they pulled them.GOLLY !
