Long story coming!

My Pop passed away when I was 9 (1939). Oldest brother was 17 years older than I and married before Pop died. Next brother was 11 years older than I and was working away from home. So neither were around to teach me!

Spring of 1946, probably March or April, I bought the "T". Another fellow and I skipped school and with his Model A towed it back to town. About 15 miles. Parked it on the School Bus parking lot which happened to be across the street from Allender's garage.

Old John Allender was likely the best Model T mechanic is SE Iowa. Always had a stream of "bacca" running down from the corner of his mouth. Suppose he shaved at least a couple times a month. I don't believe I ever heard him say a word! Grunts! I pestered him and deciphered enough grunts to get it running.

As I said before, a great learning machine!

Jack
