Yes and no. Depending where the wave starts. My Island is on the East side of Vancouver Island. Anything from the North, South or East will affect me, as long as it starts close to the mainland. A quake in Alaska, BC mainland or Washington Puget Sound area could make it. But because of all the islands, the effect would be diminished. My property is 800 step up the road from the Bay, at about 289 feet. My boat would go up and down. I have about 7 feet of extra line at high tide, on the mooring line. Some of the local docks could suffer, depending on the tide.
Waves coming from the West have the biggest effect on Port Alberni, as it is a long channel that narrows. There are many other bays on the West Coast of Vancouver Island that would be effected. Port Alberni has been hit in the past. Not my Island as far as I know.
The latest warning has been lifted, just like all the others over the past few years. A search for Gabriola Island will show where I am, or more precise, Silva Bay which is on the bottom right.
