How old is the shower valve? If it was made in the last 15 years it has to be pressure balanced to prevent scalding. If you take the escutcheon plate off you will se a large screwdriver slot. That is your pressure balance spool. Sometimes they stick and you will get no flow. Try removing it.It should rattle when you shake it. If not spray it with WD-40 or something similar to try to free it up. If that doesn't work,replace the spool.
