I recently accepted a large deposit on the 28 foot sail boat sitting on a trailer in my drive. Price to include putting it in the local puddle in functioning condition. I have installed new 12 volt switches and fuse panels, a GPS and VHF, new halyards on the mast, new packing seal for the prop shaft, a new knot meter. And that is a partial list. The cost for the ship yard guys to do this would likely be rather large. Today I will be purchasing some supplies from them such as thru hull fittings, and pay them for the travel lift to plunk the boat in the water.
I have the time, which is likely the key here. Folks that work full time, can get caught in a bind with these sort of jobs. Fortunately the ship yard helps me with advice now and then, for which I sometimes ask the bill maker, to add 30 minutes labour to my bill.
