There are about 7 ways the airline company can bump you off. But in this case it may have been for the wrong reason, that is to seat their own staff. It is usually staff that gets bumped.
We just flew Vancouver to Hong Kong to NZ, and back the same way. On one flight we were told our electronic gear ( movies, music etc. ) was not working. It was 3 staff that had to give up their seats for us.
The airline can provide cash for being booted, up to $1360 I read, but they will start at around $250. Contract law for flying must have a few hidden clauses.
Now some are pointing to the ejected shady past, to justify the eviction. I wonder if they used that with their decision with who to boot.
