We hear about Funk and Coffeyville KS. About 25 years ago (long before my interest in N's) I worked for a foundry. We went to a company, Jencast, in South Coffeyville, OK to look at some molding machines. In our tour we went to a building that sat on a concrete strip - the Jencast person pointed out that this was the old Funk airplane factory and airport. I never thought anymore about it until I got into N's. I never really dug into why that was Oklahoma and all the Funk information references Kansas. I just assumed the guy was wrong. Little did I know I was actually where they built the Funks. I found the following on old airports that pretty well gives a lot of history on the Funk location. Follow the link - it is kind of interesting.
