I have made some more Moto-Tug contacts as a result of the coverage in the Ford & Fordson Collector's Magazine. Some interesting points:
I may have the only known tug with the massive cast iron rear weight still on it (note: I haven't figured out yet how to get it off). It was that darn weight that made the haul home so miserable.
One collector purchased his tug 20+ years ago from a scrapyard in CA that had parts of numerous tugs lying around. It looked like somebody had been parting out tugs for the motors. His was the only complete tug and was sold to him with a "bad motor". He found that it had a motor with relatively few hours on it but cracked rings in all 4 cylinders (possibly due to filling it with WW II 140 octane avgas?? - my guess??). The tug was buried under scrap metal and probably had not run in many, many years.
The same collector saw two fork lift type tugs in the scrapyard. He insists that they were original, still painted in Navy Gray and with Harry Freguson tags on them. He strongly doubts that they were postwar conversions.
His tug is a BNO 25 and the motor is a BNO 25 but the frame and engine serial numbers do not match. He bought it with dual rear wheels. He has what he calls a US Navy spec sheet(s) for the tug and will send me a copy.
The tug front wheels are identical to WW II bomb trailer wheels. He suggested that I advertise on military vehicle collector's websites that I am looking for two for bomb trailer wheels.
