I still have the rear loader and it's still attached to the 1949 8N. As you noted, I do not have the assist cylinders either. Here are a couple photos a few years back. The loader works fine with the chain looped through the swinging drawbar bracket - at the base of the differential. You can see the installation in the last photo. The chain is required with or without the assist cylinders. When the chain is tensioned, that causes the loader arms to scissor upward and back. The loader will lift 200 lbs easily. If your manure is not too heavy, you will be in business! Hope this helps.
