The armadillo that GPN and JJW are singing about is the Armadillo World Headquarters, an old Nat'l Guard Armory in downtown Austin that got turned into a beer joint/concert hall. It is gone now, a victim of so called progress.
Here in Texas armadillos (or is that armadilloes?) are referred to as "speed bumps". I used to work with guy from Minnesota who was a retired B52 pilot. He was stationed at KI Sawyer when he retired and he said he started driving south until he saw lots of armadillos. He figured that was a good sign so he stopped and settled in Abilene, TX.
