I'm seeking feedback/opinions on log splitters - and please move this to "off topics," if that is where this topic belongs. On the farm we have a firewood processor, yet I'm looking into buying a new unit, small/portable, etc for use when not working at the processing site. So ...

We are all familiar with hydraulic splitters. They can be operated 3pt, electric or self powered. My choice is gas engine self-powered.

I've looked at many makes and models - yet haven't found one unit that combines the many features I'm seeking. In early August I stopped at the TSC in Escanaba MI, and the sales assistant suggested holding off til October and check out the new rack'n'pinion splitter about to be released, made by Speeco.

Well, it is now available. And Dr Power also has a model based upon the same concept, for considerably more money. Both have demo videos available on websites, that compare their individual units to traditional hydraulic units. And clearly, the rack'n'pinion models (IMO) is the way to go. But now ... which one - Speeco or DR?

If I've done this correctly, here are two links for those two models for those interested to review.

Thanks for any feedback.
