Easiest way to tell a CM Hall from the later Tract-O-Lites is that the bracket on the CM Hall was riveted on the OUTSIDE of the bucket, while the bracket on the Tract-O-Lites was riveted on the INSIDE. In other words, you can see the bracket on a C M Hall, but the bracket is on the inside of the light on a Tract-O-Lite. Plus, the C M Halls were bigger lights.

C M Halls were a dealer installed option from 1939 to about 1942. In about 1942 Ford started supplying dealers with the sealed beam Tract-O-Lites and these replaced the C M Halls. Tract-O-Lites were supplied right up to the end of 8N production, so there really was no such thing as a 2N light or an 8N light. The real serious collectors among us can detect variations over time in the Tract-O-Lites (some had no markings on them, for ex), but the variations are minor.

If you think that you have a C M Hall bucket, I'll gladly swap you a restorable original Tract-O-Lite for it.
