Looks like chrome to me... I always thought we could do our own chrome plating, by just reversing the electrolysis technique... But I hear Chromium suspension is some nasty stuff. Many years ago I fixed some lights by using a high temp adhesive to adhere aluminum foil to some light cones... That is when I found out about the power of electrolysis, steel doesn't get along with direct contact with aluminum.
The problem wasn't with the glued on part, it was at the trim rings where the foil contacted the steel rings... Amazing how fast it corroded... Have you ever tried chroming something yourself?? I remember doing something back in chemistry class… HTH…S.
