Abraham, I have been a landscaper and lawn/tree care guy for some time in my past and I understand what it is you are thinking. Wifey and I also have a '52 8N we converted to 12 volts with EI. Allow me to ask a few questions and give you some advice/insight.

First, my understanding is that you have a rather long driveway with a dirt patch at the end of it that you planted grass seed and want to water it.

If the area to water is only a small area of less than 200 sq ft then why would you need a pump? Stand two 55 gal barrels in your truck and let gravity to the work thru hoses.

If the area to water is much greater than that, or there might be plans in the future for more watering, I would not bother with 55 gal barrels. If you feel the need to have a serious water supply to water trees, grasses, livestock, and such then I would advise on creating a plastic tote spray tank that you can mount on a small (homemade?) trailer that can attach to your truck or pull it with your tractor. These plastic totes are becoming so very easy to find. I paid anywhere from $50 to $80 for one years ago. "IBC" is a name you will find when researching plastic totes. Whatever name of one you find, find one that is "food grade" meaning it was only used for some kind of food use. Honey, vegetable oil, corn syrup, just to name a few. I have used them for watering my garden in the back 40. Also, for watering our poultry.

Either way I would rather use a 12 volt pump so that you need not run your tractor just to pump water. You can just drop off your tank somewhere and leave it and still water using and electric pump and a battery. Your rig does not have a "live" PTO so your engine speed will dictate your pump speed. If your rig does not operate on 12 volt neg ground there are 6 volt spray pumps out there.

Next question is how would you fill your water containment system? Do you collect rain water? My idea would be to collect the free water from your gutters and run that to fill your plastic totes. One tote, on one trailer, collecting rain from one set of gutters. You can still use your water spigot to finish topping the tote off if it is not full. Around here this spring so far THAT would not be an issue!

Water will weigh approx 8 lbs per gallon so a 55 gal drum = 440 lbs of water. Add the drum, hoses, fittings, ect. Two drums puts you over the weight max for your rig's 3 pt lift. Problem! A plastic tote on a trailer pulled by your rig is no problem. You could share the pump between two or more tanks if you want. Whenever one tank is full pull that one out from the gutters and back an empty one in.

Having built a few spray units I can help ya with that. Just a few fittings, a pump, valves, and a tank. Your ACE Hardware, TrueValue, Menards, or many other hardware stores will have what you need except the plastic tote. Plastic totes like that could be as close as the next big town. Check on CraigsList, online ads, or the newspaper for plastic totes. Maybe you can get together yourself a good spray unit and get to watering neighbors for hire and make your money back and then some!

I have included some very informative links for you to watch and read.

Hope this helps. I left my email open if ya need more help.
