My 6 volt pos ground tractor is not charging correctly.
The gage shows a slight discharge when running and even more when lights are on.
I motored the generator and it spins smoothly, did not use ammeter when motoring.
Grounded field terminal of reg. as in FO manual with no change.
Tried polarizing field poles by jumpering from field on Gen. to battery, just a touch actually.
This caused guage to start working momentarily then it stopped. Touching field again caused same.
With cover off regulator, I can see the first set of contacts opening and closing rapidly and erratically. Guage goes to full side of charge, bounces needle then back to no charge. I have cleaned all terminal except switch and starter.
Regulator is USA made, appears bigger than what should be there. I do not know how
big stock is but this one does not bolt in properly, do have it grounded though.
No adjust bolt on reg. like I'm used to on old GM cars.
Been throught the How to's here, don't trust much else I read on the web.
ANy ideas what I am missing?
