Roger,,you have the better late 50/52 steering boxes.Don't understand about the altering of the shaft but I would suggest you putting a zerk just top of the top shaft bearings because these need greasing a couple of times a year with good use.Your box is also easy to adjust when needed.Check the repair manual.I've changed all my boxes to cornhead grease and am satisfied with it.It doesn't seem to "weep" out the seals.I'm down south so I'm not afraid of it getting hard from freezing.That was a swell repair wasn't it?
