While parts are on order for the 640 steering box, I decided to get back to finishing the brakes on the 8N.
The dust seal that goes around the outside of the backing plate is of a square
material instead of a rope like original.
I had a hard time getting the drum on, the seal is so big, I had to use a screwdriver to coax the seal inside the drum. Now there is so much resistance that I can't spin the wheel very easily to adjust the brakes. It is only the felt dust seal rubbing.
What have others done with this seal?
If it's just for dust does it need to be there? planty of cars go down gravel roads
without a seal for the drums.
