8N starter relay followup Q

Recently I had some issues with a new starter relay I was installing. It ended up being in an 'always on' state when I installed it. I bench tested the relay, and it works well. I put it back in the tractor, and it fails. I backed all the way out to just connecting the starter side of the relay, and the negative battery cable, with the positive battery cable disconnected, and I found the relay to have continuity between the two main posts. Turns out that tightening the nut on the battery side is causing the relay to change to a closed position internally somehow. Is this a defective relay? Is this something that I should be able to adjust in the posts on this relay? I was going to try backing off the backer nut a little, and then tightening it again, so the nut and cables don't sit so close to the plastic housing of the relay, to see if that would make the relay stable, but it occurred to me that if the relay were defective, I'd just be setting up a very dangerous situation.

I did notice that when I tightened up on the battery cable post nut, the post proper turned a little bit.
