Was that a Bel-saw sawmill? My neghbor had one and a couple other people I know have them. They were factory made to run off tractor pto. Many were mounted to a truck frame with a hitch added to make them portable. At the Pageant of Steam here in NY they have a shingle mill (along with a sawmill). One of the people I know from out tractor club who has a bel-saw mill also has a shingle mill. Many other old sawmills were driven by tractor belt pulleys as well as old car and truck engines. Band saw mills have made the old sawmills obsolete.
