If you have a 12V system on your 8N and don't have the single wire alternator, with a two wire switch, it will let the tractor run with the switch in the off position if the alternator field wire and the ignition wire are wired to the same side. You can choke the engine down to make it stop running and the alternator will disconnect. You can use a diode in the field wire to make voltage travel to the alternator, but not back to the ignition switch. I usually go ahead and use a three position switch (with accessories position), and that way I have the charging system and the ignition isolated from each other when the switch is off. Dennis
