I am new to this board and new to the internals of an 8N, although not unfamiliar with engines. I am currently disassembling the engine on an early (five digit) 8N, which looks pretty good but will get new pistons and rings, valve assemblies, rod bearings and possibly sleeves. The current sleeves are at the limit for wear.
My question has to do with the valve assemblies. The book shows a special tool to lift the guide in order to remove the retainer. The video shows a lovely young lady doing the same with a modified screwdriver. I have been able to remove three intake valve assemblies, and to wrestle out a couple more retainers, but the remaining guides are not interested in leaving. Do I need to use the heat wrench on these, or is there another trick?
Thank you in advance for whatever light can be shed. I'm sure I'm not done here.
