Dan,A used manifold could still be leaking causing the ticking sound.Get a 2 foot length of garden hose or the like.With the engine running hold one end to your ear and run the other end around the manifold #4 port and listen for the leak.It is possibility still leaking some.May have to use some sealer like red RTV if it is not eroded to bad.
