Matt, I have to agree with Tim on the conversion.

I lived in South Dakota for several years. Nasty winter weather! MY 8N sat outside and never failed to start when I needed/wanted it.

I also worked in Industrial Electronics most of my adult life. I see no reason to convert to 12 volt unless you are running an accessory such as a pump which needs the higher voltage. The Kettering ignition system has served well well since 1910 and carried our troops through two world wars.

I also have to admit I'm not good on preventative maintenance! If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
