I was just given a Ford tractor. It is almost running. Serial number 8N147877 tells me that it is an 8N from mid 1949, but the transmission is three forward, one reverse.
Distributor is on the front of the motor. There is no tachometer/speedo/hours meter, so it is not one of the youngest 8Ns anyway. The number plates are badly weathered, so I haven’t been able to read them; when the weather is nicer I’ll take a soft toothbrush to them in hopes of learning more.
The tractor has a Super Six loader that started its life as a manure loader.
The air cleaner does not have any opening at all in the tin.
So, what do I have? An 8N that somebody Frankensteined on to a 9N transmission?
