Go to the state .gov site, hwy and AG .gov and read - but most states are the same. SMV sign to be posted at rear most vehicle, located central to vehicle. Contrary to the folks who think they are used for ID'g their drives and mailboxes would be wrong. SMV signs are only legally supposed to be used for one purpose. Bet not many law enforcement people know that either.
