Welcome aboard. First up is to get copies of the Essential Manuals so you know what, where, and how to work on your new machine correctly. ALL 9N/ and 2N models had there forward gears and DRAFT CONTROL ONLY. Serial numbers were hand stamped, and all 9N and 2N s/n's began with a star symbol and 9N prefix with a star symbol in the suffix. Numeral 1 was the capital letter 'I'. 6 and 9 were lower case letter b's. S/N's were stamped on a boss on the block near the oil filter housing. Sherman AUX trans shifter handle on lower LH side shifter case. Electrical was OEM 6V/POS GRN but some guys think 12V is better so switch over but many boggle up the correct setup and end up with non-starting issues. If you indeed show a 2N s/n, know that the 2N didn't show up til OCT 1942 and then only these were warhorse models. Only about 10-12 K units were warhorse til standard 9N production resumed, now a 2N model. You can get some OEM manuals in our MANUALS forum -free downloads, but you need Adobe, also a free copy if you need one. Also, click on the LINK below - TRACTOR ID for more.
