And if your running a 12V system it should be running a 40K volt coil. That voltage will jump a .045 gap with no problem. Points just open to discharge the coil. That 40K voltage is not on the primary circuit that the points are. A wider gap, a hotter spark and a cleaner burn.
Champion plugs generally run on the cold side from the catalog. They run good in the old Chrysler's but I have dealt with too many fouled champs in most every other application. IMO.
