Timing marks 8n

I had the hood off my 8n for several weeks. I removed a over/under sherman from the
tractor because I didn't use it and I had a noisy bearing. (It's for sale if someone is interested).
After sanding and painting the hood I removed the pony tank and put hood on. I drove it around yard for a bit enjoying the ride. Shut it down, decided I could tweek it a little and make it run a bit better. First mistake, pulled dist.second mistake.
After three days of spending lots of time and sweat I got it running.
My question is why two timing marks and what's the difference.

Another lesson learned.
