Your 47 vintage (1948 model) 8N has a steering box that is play adjusted by removing the bolts holding the pitman
shaft bearings and seals and rotating them to take out the play. They are eccentric bored. The triangular plate/set screw adjustment is on the later 51-52 8N's. Most people recommend changing out the early steering box to the later version. I have rebuilt my original 47 8N box and it works well, but it was a real chore that took three tries to get the leaking stopped.
