As for trimming or grinding the blades, I don't understand the reluctance to do that here.
I don't think I've ever seen a fan that wasn't bent and/or out of balance - sometimes pretty severely.
Yet I've never seen a post that discusses tweaking/straightening one - least of all in the manner I described below which may not make them perfect but they are better balanced than before. Do others balance their fans? How do they do it?
I don't think grinding one will make it much out of balance. Surely not as bad as most fans I've seen.
As I said below, I prefer having a fan shroud, for the reasons I listed and for originality.
I too did as Jmor mentioned below; Spent a day of aggravation trying to get a fan to stop rubbing the shroud. Finally gave up and ground a little off the blades. An hour later shroud was on and all was good.
