I've used 50 or so of those pumps in various displacements and both SAE-AA and SAE-A form factor. The only one that ever had a problem had been field modified to reverse the rotation and leaked from the outset. I dont know if the modification was done by Burdens or by the OEM but the part number was restamped to indicate the change. Check the model number stamped on the top of your pump. It should end in "PA" indicating keyed shaft and anti-clockwise rotation. If that "A" has been restruck or the directional arrow on the top indicates clockwise rotation that pump has been disassembled and reassembled by someone after it was manufactured.
