I have to ask, did you remember to drain the oil last time you changed it? Silly question, except my old boss did that with his truck and ended up with way too much oil in the engine. He said it pegged the oil pressure gauge, smoked like a train, and spewed oil out everywhere. He shut it off, drained and filled with the correct amount, and apparently didn't do any permanent damage. I would have bet that much oil would hydraulically lock and break something, but maybe he was two quarts low when he started the oil change.
