Not sure about the parts braking , but I dont see why a reduction starter is needed. These tractors have been starting with out one since day one. I have seen tractors that have been beat bad over and over and started just fine. We once had a Oliver 70 that we changed to 12 volt but did not change anything with the starter never a problem in 12 years like that. not saying it was right ,but that what we saw. Maybe to much end play in your starter and its slamming into the fly wheel? Doug
