First, you mean the distributor change, but both setups use different coils too. The Front Mount uses the square can coil and the Angle(Side) Mount Distributor uses the more robust round can coil. As far as attempting to change over, I advise not to -it's not worth the hassle nor the money and time spent, in my opinion. You could swap out engines cheaply and easily, or even just get yourself a later model 8N.

It's more than just changing the front covers.
The side mount engine block has two bolt holes in the left side where the generator mounts. You will need to create a generator or alternator mount from scratch. The oil filler neck and oil filter may get in your way, they were moved on the side distributor engine to make space for the generator. You will need a replacement water pump unless your engine already has the universal replacement water pump, the backing plate is different. Wiring is slightly different but not too hard to figure out. As others have said, it's far easier to just find a complete side-distributor engine and swap everything with the engine it fits.
After all that, what have you gained? A more durable coil design, YES, but I find the side distributor is actually harder to work on.
I'll add to that the generator will need to be fabbed for LH installed on and the Oil Filler neck changed -if there is room. Is there something wrong with the current front mount?
