Welcome to the club. I’d advise that you also should let the reader know what you are talking about as far as tractor model it is you are dealing with; is it a 9N/2N or an 8N or something later? Next, you have something else wrong with yours and I wouldn't try to jump start anything until you determine what is the root cause problem and fix it. The 8N and up models can be jump started with a 12V to a 6V system using the starter motor solenoid. The 9N and 2N have no solenoid. Just because you have a 6V battery does NOT mean you have the entire wiring system correct. Try this first: Go to our HOW-TO's forum ( see LINK ) and search for ELECTRICAL subcategory. Scroll all the way down and find "WIRING PICTOGRAMS BY JMOR" and open the pdf document. You can save it to your PC and use it for reference. Find you setup based on model and system. Disconnect the battery. Trace the entire wiring system of your tractor using the Pictograms and determine what is mucked up and fix it. Only then you can connect the battery and test the system. Follow this archived LINK about jumping and click on the '75 Tips For N-Owners’ from Bruce(VA) and download a copy as well for yourself -they are both free. ...from the HOW-TO's forum, top red menu bar on HOME page:
