It's sad. Dave's early 9N was priceless IMHO. The history alone makes it a $50k machine. The MECUM auctions went for $30k + and they weren't even 100% correct. Perhaps this is one other reasons why guys don't get into the restoration field much anymore. The return on investment was never profitable as it is. You cannot put a price tag on a person's pride and efforts though. Knowing one has a rare machine is gratification to him and the few that are in the know. My early 9N is a late 1939 model, 4-digit s/n, but was my grandfather's and uncles so that will always hold a place in my heart. I hope the new owners appreciate the history of the Schafer tractors and continue to include the info in their shows.
