I have a 49 six volt with the headlights mounted on its Dearborn loader. They've never worked since I bought the tractor and now I'm ready to take it on. So far I've checked the bulbs (I think I did it correctly), replaced the fuse in the light switch (20 amp), tested to see that I have power as far as the switch, but no results yet. I have a couple of specific questions. 1. Will the lights work with the ignition switch in the "Off" position? 2. I removed the bulbs and did a continuity test by touching a probe to the contact on each side of the bulb. The meter showed continuity. Does that mean the bulb is good? 3. If I run a jump wire from the wire coming into the light switch and attach it to the wire going to the headlight (bypassing the switch), shouldn't the bulb light up if it's good?
Thanks for any help. I'd like to note that the starting trick I learned here on the N Board (crank for 3 seconds choke off, then for 3 seconds choke on) really does work.
