Even a long walk to fetch more gas may be less trouble than opening the fuel valve all the way. I never worried about using that reserve until my fuel valve clogged plowing snow. We might get one really good snowstorm in an entire winter season, so it figures when mine clogged it was snowing about 1" an hour. Nothing I tried would flow for more than a few seconds without clogging again. Can't do much work with a tractor that won't run. I did have a new fuel valve assembly handy. Drained the rest of the gas, pulled the old valve, flushed the tank, installed the new valve, cleaned the carb screen, and made sure the fuel line was clean.
