Kirk, I,too, have seen them cracked between #2 and #3 cyls all the way to the center main bng journal. An old, local machine shop here used to machine a long 1/2" grade 8 bolt down in the middle, drill holes in each side of the block, install the bolt with the sleeves out, then, re-install the sleeves with slight amount of clearance between the bolt and sleeves. Of course, they would cut the head off the bolt and machine thread both end, and tighten the nuts on both side to pull the crack back together and keep it from leaking. When I would buy a TO, I'd look at the block to see and see if this procedure had been performed. It worked quite well, Dennis.
