Excellent! A perfect example of root cause problem solving. The one thing you may want to change is filing the points. Any abrasive action will remove the fine finish on a surface and actually make it more prone to oxidation. You could try a piece of paper bag slightly damp, not soaking wet, with some mineral spirits to remove any oil residue, then a few passť with a dry piece to clean the points with. A file, emery cloth, krokus cloth, sandpaper, et al are not recommended to clean points.
