The original Ford Hat Rims used special carriage bolts to secure the center discs on with. They were 5/8-18 NF, a fine thread which, carriage bolts are no longer produced in the industry. Also, the 5/8-18 Hex Nuts that were used had a 1-1/6" AF (Across Flats) dimension. They were not special, that's just the way they made them back then -HD. the flat washers too were nice and thick -HD as well. The good news is Dennis Carpenter Reproductions makes the bolts, washers, and nuts, exact-as-original, and sells them in a kit which will do one wheel and disc with 6 bolts, 6 nuts, and 6 washers. The bolts are in the exact-as-original 2.68" length as well. They don't make bolts in odd lengths anymore either. Now you can go to the hardware store and buy 5/8-11 NC (Coarse Thread) carriage bolts and hex nuts with a 1" or 15/16" AF dimension too. her is a LINK to Carpenters site. I usually look at JUST8Ns first but they don't list the kit, only each piece sold separately.
