I have several Type "B" belts from different manufacturers that are slightly different widths. A minor difference in width, changes how the belt rides in the pulleys, which changes actual running length. I believe some of the belts I have may be 17mm metric belts that were considered "close enough" to be labeled and sold as type "B". Those belts ride higher in the pulleys, so they run as if they are shorter than the stated length. Most of my projects require custom length belts, and I always end up buying several to get one that adjusts the way I want to run it. I generally try to run the shortest belt I can. With the 2N, a short belt keeps the alternator as far as I can get it from the steering linkage.
