As stated NO!!! Never muck with the fuel line, bulb, and/or carb while engine is running and HOT -SAFETY FIRST!!!! Always work on carb and bulb with a COLD engine. The fuel sediment bowl is supposed to collect debris. The heavy gunk settles before it can pass thru the fuel line to the carb. The line removal at the carb fuel inlet brass elbow test determines if there is blockage above that point -in the Fuel Sediment Bulb Assembly itself, meaning either the two screens on it are plugged and/or the fuel inlet port on the top is plugged. If you are seeing a lot of debris in the bowl, chances are good your tank is full of crud, chaff, and maybe rust flakes. Often times the fine mesh screen is missing, This is on the top of assembly, soldered on vertically, the portion that has the fuel inlet and is hidden up inside the tank. You say your fuel flow from line is good. Next is to reconnect the line and test drain plug fuel flow as R Geiger said, or you can test the drain plug flow before you test the fuel line -either way is fine. The drain plug test determines if blockage is internal inside the carb. Both tests require that the fuel flow is nice and steady, with Bulb valve open 2-Turns, almost a pencil-thick diameter stream, with no hesitation, stopping, starting, trickling, or sputtering. Drain plug test failure means time to rebuild carb. If unable or unwilling to, my email is open as I do this all the time. Now, another test involves getting spark. If fuel flow tests GOOD, the next time the engine stalls out, immediately check for spark. Get a copy of Bruce(VA)'s "75 Tips for N-Owners" and see Tip #13. Get a free download here in HOW-TO's -see LINK. Further inspection may involve going thru the wiring completely.I've already suggested to go thru the wiring as well, starting first with a good battery. Also in HOW-TO's under ELECTRICAL is another free download, "WIRING PICTOGRAMS by JMOR. It is imperative that to be an N-Owner that one also acquire the essential manuals -either originals or copies -and we have most of the originals scanned in our MANUALS forum including an early version of the I&T F-04 Manual.
