Don't feel bad, many of us have done the similar thing. Also, the PTO cannot be engaged (or disengaged) unless the clutch pedal is depressed, then will not operate until the clutch is released. If system works well enough now, you can continue to do so but it will only get worse so plan on a system flush and possible rebuild of hydraulic pump to do it right. It's not a difficult task, just time consuming and you will want to get a helper. See my How To document and the I&T F-04 Manual has the procedure as well.
