By the way, take the distributor off of the engine; the tang is offset so there is no way to put it back on wrong. I read once where someone changed the points on the tractor and that is just making it way too difficult. You can check the timing when you have the distributor off; you use a straight edge to do this. I saw where someone made a tool to make it easy peasy. I need to put new bushings in my distributor; you can check that when you have the distributor off. You might want to check the distributor cap as well and you may as well replace the rotor button if it looks in doubt. By the way, one aspect over look on these 8Ns is that you don't want to run resistor wires or plugs; you can get solid copper wires and that is what should be on these tractors. The noise issue is gone now that television is digital so no need to run resistor wires and plugs on these tractors; solid copper will give you a hotter spark.
