I have a 50 8N. I just finished rebuilding the hydraulic pump and lift cover and scraping the sludge out of the differential housing with my fingernails, then washing the whole mess out with diesel. The whole process took about 6 months in between work and family stuff. The moment of truth came. I opened the fuel valve and immediately gas started leaking around the sediment bowl. The gasket had shrank into an unrecognizable shape from drying out. I had bought a new gasket, but when I pulled out the old one it was obvious that the new one was too small. I went to the local TSC and the right size gasket is from a set for another brand. So, someone replaced the shutoff valve with a non-8N one. The new gasket went in and the valve was opened. No leaks. Now to start the engine. I had been float charging the battery to keep it up, but it could barely crank the engine. Back to the local TSC for a new battery, but they were out. I found one about 30 miles away. With a new battery, the engine turned over and started fine. It took a few minutes for the oil to purge the air out and the lift arms raised up. I went out and hooked up to a bush hog and it lifted it up with no problem. I needed to check out the bush hog so I parked it and the tractor in the garage for the night. About 2 AM the dogs wanted to go out. When I went opened the door to the garage, it was filled with gas fumes. Now, gas was leaking out from the stem. I drained the tank that I had just filled a few hours ago and put a container under the fuel bowl and went back to bed. This morning I pulled the stem and the rubber washers need to be replaced on a shutoff valve that I can't find any information for. I went to Just 8N's and placed an order for a new valve. Let's see what happens after I get that in.
