In the course of refurbing a 1944 production 2N. Both brake levers were seized hard so I pulled the axles, backing plates etc. to make freeing the cross shaft easier and inspect the brakes. Lining are 75% or better. Cleaned everything and reassembled the right side Axle. It easily seated all the way into the side gears and bolted up flush to the housing with no interference.
I now have a lot of end play .1250" or better. What did I miss? Bearing is good.
I didn't have to beat anything apart. A couple of blows to release the drum from the hub as the adjusters were seized. Everything is now free and properly adjusted. There were no shims, only paper gaskets on the flange surfaces.
Thanks for any help,
