It doesn't matter if up or down only that it is checked when the system is OFF and has had a chance to settle. Means wait a few hours after shutting tractor off. Here's a good practice to get into...each time you go to use the tractor for job, before you crank the engine over check the engine oil and the condition as well as the hydraulic oil level and condition. Do a walk around and a visual for anything hinky like a loos wire or bolt or missing nut or bolt. Check radiator coolant level and remove any chaf from grille.
