Very neat story indeed Larry. Thank you for sharing it. I have seen one like it in a salvage yard about 30 years ago. There were several Oliver versions around here in the heyday of the local Oliver dealer. I remember the dealer salesman giving his best pitch and woo to Daddy on the machine exclaiming "Yassir, she'll starve a chicken behind her". Daddy was a Ford man tho, and had a Ford/Wood Brothers pull type machine powered by a Wisconsin VF4 Air Cooled Engine. The engine was notoriously cantankerous to start. I learned a few new words by listening to Daddy trying to get it started one day. Those combines had the reputation of cleaning the grain so well that one elevator operator paid a premium to the farmer that used one. Daddy did a lot of custom picking with that machine throughout the neighborhood, often leaving his own crop in the field for last. Good memories ! SoS.
